Dialectical Behaviour Therapy

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a therapeutic approach which focuses on teaching skills and strategies to enable the client to manage a range of emotions, behaviours and situations.

Originally designed for use with Borderline Personality Disorder, DBT has also been found to help with clinical depression and anxiety, and substance abuse.

Individuals who have difficulty dealing with their emotions and behaviours, including self harm and suicidal behaviours, or who have problems maintaining relationships and employment etc find this approach useful.

Skills taught fall within the categories of mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance.
